The music I listen to most are often that of rock, indie and acoustic artists such as the Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Foo Fighters, Greenday, Catfish & The Bottlemen, Ed Sheeran, The 1975. However I enjoy pretty much all genres of music like Classical, Reggae, Folk, Metal, Blues, Jazz/Funk and some Pop music, but I dislike scream-o death metal because I just can't understand what they are "singing" about but I can appreciate that you have to be quite skilled to be able to sing in that way.
Being the youngest with 3 older siblings I would listen to the music that they would listen too as well as my parents, sometimes not by choice. For example, a lot of the time my brother and sisters because they were older automatically had control of the TV which would often be showing music videos from channels like 'Kerrang!' (Rock/punk and other subgenres and 'Vintage TV' (lots of 70's to 90's music) and although I used to hate not being able to watch what I wanted to I actually used to love listening to different types of rock as well as much older music, like 80's pop and rock which was drilled into my brain by my sister ad listening to my parents music. Because my parents are quite old we still had a record player in our house which was frequently used which is why I've grown up liking artists such as Led Zeppelin, The Who, The Beatles, Pink Floyd, Blur, Eric Clapton, Bob Dylan, Duran Duran, Jimi Hendrix, Blondie, Queen, Gary Numan and David Bowie -who my mum was a huge fan of- in addition to having shelves and shelves full of their huge CD collection.
Although there was a lot of old pop and rock that I grew up listening to, when me and my siblings were younger we used to go to the same, very small, Fairport Convention festival which would have lesser known folk, reggae, and rock bands playing there, however, bands such as UB40 and Alice Cooper have also headlined. This introduced me to a lot of different types of music which younger people my age wouldn't usually listen to. Additionally, my Grandma visits every Sunday and that meant listening to really old music from WW2 times, such as the Ink Spots and various other artists which really helped me have more of an appreciation for this type of music that I would otherwise would never hear as it is never usually sold at shops on CD's because stereotypically only older people listen to it.
In terms of how I consume music, it varies a lot, as I have quite diverse taste in music so it depends on what genre of music I feel like listening to. For example, I don't use the radio that often to listen to music unless I am travelling(as it doesn't require internet)or if I want to listen to pop music. This is because most radio stations only play this type of music to appeal to a larger audience as it is the most popular music currently playing songs from very mainstream artists such as Adele, who's album '25' has become the No.1 fastest and biggest seller in Britain 2015.
Because I listen to music a lot of the time -often when I'm doing other things, like doing school work as music helps me concentrate- I mostly use the website www.YouTube.com to stream music. The main reasons for this is because YouTube is free to use and because you can either create your own playlists specific to what music you feel like listening to depending on your mood or you can choose from different continuous playlists created by the website based on artists you have searched for and played. Additionally the only thing you are required to have to use this website is internet access which isn't much of an issue because nowadays you can get internet connection in most places, whether that's at home, school or out and about.
Similarly, nearly 27 billion songs were streamed on sites such as Spotify, Deezer, Google Play, and iTunes which are services that you pay monthly to use or buy songs and albums individually, which definitely reflects the way I consume music when I'm not using YouTube or playing CD's at home. Because I have an android phone, I use Google Play quite often to buy music that I don't own on CD's as having music downloaded on a device is much more convenient which is why I don't buy CD's as often as I used to.
